I managed to catch both the sunset (left) and the sunrise (below) although it meant a fairly short night.. |

It was a very positive emotional experience to be all alone on a windswept ridge, more than a thousand feet above the river, with the moods of the mountains changing every few minutes. |

The view wasn't just 360 degrees… it would be better described as "full orbed" because it was fascinating to look up and down too. The birds soared above and the villages below began to stir. |

While most people slept, the woman above reaped and bundled her crop into little tee-pees . To the right is Altit Fort and the surrounding village. You can see the smoke holes in the roofs of homes, which is a stylistic signature of a Hunzan home. In warm weather the people sleep on the roofs. |

In another part of Pakistan we were told that this is called a "chaydoc" and is used to help travelers find their way. I don't know the origins or purpose of this one but I contributed to it, anyway. |
