A Native American woman.

Lucy Hunt, circa 1895
Compared to men, relatively little has been recorded about the daily lives of Native American women. In the early 1900's, the Native American ethnographer George Hunt recorded a long series of "food recipes" as told by his Kwakiutl wife Lucy Hunt. Though the native ways of food preparation is the nominal subject of these writings, Lucy Hunt explains in depth the etiquette and social status surounding food which gives a revealing glimpse into the daily life of a Native American women from a century ago.
